Gaetano “Tom” Rosolia, 92 of LaSalle, died November 18, 2017 in Manor Court in Peru.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in Queen of The Holy Rosary Shrine in LaSalle with Rev Jacob Valle officiating. Burial will in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in LaSalle with full military services conducted by LaSalle/Oglesby Veteran Memorial Group. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday in the Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle.
Tom was one of six children born to Anton and Della (Gaiti) Rosolia. He married Marie Leynaud on October 21, 1950. Marie Passed away July 15, 2008 after 58 years of marriage.
He graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School in 1943 and was drafted into the U.S. Navy on May 1, 1943 and served until his discharge in May of 1946. He served in the Southwest Pacific under Admiral Nimits at a base assembling underwater demolition mines and laying them in enemy waters. He was honorable discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer.
After being discharged, he entered in the taxi business with his father until 1959. At that time he went to work for Metropolitan Insurance Company as an agent selling insurance and as a consultant. He was the first man in his district to write a million dollars worth of insurance in his second year. He continued on writing a million dollars more insurance for many years, qualifying him for the Metropolitan Round Table Award.
Tom loved to say he worked hard and he played hard. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to fish and hunt. His travels took him to most of the western and southern states, Canada, Mexico, and Argentina. He passed on his love of nature and passion for the outdoors to his nephews and great nephew.
Tom is survived by one sister Josephine Mrowicki, one brother Tony (Sharon) Rosolia, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie, two brothers Gaetano and Angelo, and one sister Santa Lucia (Sally) Schwindaman.
Pallbearers will be David and Raymond Mrowicki and Paul and Matt Faber.
