Bonnie I. Bird

Bonnie I. Bird, 74, of La Salle, passed away peacefully April 12, 2024 in OSF St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Ottawa.

Funeral services will be 6:00 PM Tuesday in the Zion United Church of Christ in Peru with Rev. Alex Garncarz officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until of services.  The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is entrusted with Bonnie’s funeral arrangements.  

Bonnie was born in Oak Park on February 24, 1950 to Ken and Irene (Boeldt) Bishop.  She married Richard Bird in 1988.  She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Peru.  She worked as a helper’s aid for La Salle Grade School and Golden Bear Restaurant before becoming a homemaker.  Bonnie was involved in Boy’s and Cub’s Scouting.  She enjoyed crafts and going with Rich to crafts show, puzzles, and crossword puzzles.  Her greatest joy was her grandchildren.  She enjoyed watching Friends and Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and General Hospital.

Bonnie is survived by her husband Rich of La Salle; one son Jason (Staci) Pruitt of Oglesby and one daughter Carrie (Darrell) White of Mesa, AZ; one step-son John Bird of Florida; one step-daughter Mary Knogel of Des Plaines; eight grandchildren, Turner (Morgan) Pruitt, Taylor Pruitt, Trevor Pruitt, Kylee (Ty) Noel, Emma (Ethan) Gochanour, Landen Gochanour, Matt Knogel and William Knogel; three great-grandchildren, Kairi, Lydia and Atticus; one brother Chris (Liz) Bishop of St. Charles; two sisters-in-laws Susie Bishop of Belvidere and Mary Lou McCullough of Ottawa; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Mark Bishop and her brother-in-law Walt Bird. 

Her grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
