Ramona J. Flannery, 86, of Joliet, and formerly of La Salle, died with family at her side on September 22, 2016 in Joliet Community Hospice Home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday in St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle with Rev. Jacob Valle officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 PM Monday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle and 10:00 AM Tuesday in the church until time of services.
Mrs. Flannery was born in Peru on July 17, 1930 to Raymond and Marie (Mussatto) Dusch. She grew up in Cedar Point. Married John Flannery in St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle on June 4, 1955. For a brief time, Mona taught nursing students at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. Then, she served as a nurse for the American Red Cross. Mona worked for the Will County Health Department as a public health nurse. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Joliet as a psychiatric nurse. She was proud of being a nurse and enjoyed her profession. Mona enjoyed a little travel, played cards, and enjoyed luncheons with her friends. She was an advocate for education and disabilities.
Mrs. Flannery is survived by her husband John of Joliet; two sons, John(Nancy Lorrance)Flannery of Wheaton and Mark(Chris Basso)Flannery of Peoria; one daughter Ann Flannery of Joliet; two grandchildren, Katherine and Michael and one step grandson, Mike.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
