Ethel L. Gingerich

Ethel L. Gingerich, 96, of Tonica passed away April 12, 2017 in Manor Court of Peru.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica with Rev. Alex Garncarz officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Tonica. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Mrs. Gingerich was born in Tonica on August 20, 1920 to Fred and Eva (Goodwin) Jones. Ethel attended the Tonica Grade School and graduated from Tonica High School. She married Glenn Gingerich on June 10, 1961. She worked at Westclox for 23 years. Mrs. Gingerich was a member of Tonica Rebekah Lodge for 50 years. She joined the Tonica Lodge in 1955. She was President of District #14 in 1989 and 1992. She was especially talented at tatting. Her work was even taken to local craft fairs. Glenn and Ethel had a large vegetable garden; Glenn tended the garden while Ethel canned what was harvested.

Ethel is survived by several nieces and nephews and two dear friends Doris Genterit of Lostant and Irma Gallagher of Peru.

She was preceded in death by her husband on January 16, 2016 and three brothers Howard, Larry, and Grant Jones.

Memorials may be directed to the Peru Volunteer Ambulance Service or the Zion United Church in Peru.

The family extends a warm thank you to the Manor Court family for caring for Glenn and Ethel during their time in the nursing home.
