Rita A. Jurkas, 77 of La Salle, died at 5:26 AM May 21, 2016 in St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 PM Thursday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. Cremation will follow and burial of her ashes will be at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle at a later date.
Rita was born in La Salle on October 7, 1938 to Emil and Bonnie (McGunnigal) Taveirne. She married Kenneth R. Jurkas Sr. on November 17, 1956. She worked in the accounting department at numerous local constructing companies.
Rita’s greatest joy was visiting her sons and their family.
She is survived by three sons, Rick (Lori) Jurkas, Joseph Jurkas and Kenny (Rachel) Jurkas, all of Peru; four grandchildren, Jason Jurkas, Tiffany (Robert) Johnsen, Kendra Jurkas and Amber (Matt) Skinner; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Lucas and Briana Skinner and one great-grandchild on the way; one sister, Betty Diedrick of La Salle and one brother Bob (Marlene) Taveirne of Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband on March 27, 2014 and her parents.
