Jennie (Oberch) Monk

Jennie Monk, 99, formerly of Wenona passed away at 6:20 AM on April 8, 2016 at Heritage Health in Peru.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wenona with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wenona. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-7:00 PM in the Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona. Additional visitation will be in the church at 10:00 AM until time of services.

Mrs. Monk was born in DePue on the family farm on October 17, 1916 to John and Josephine (Skutelj) Oberch Sr. She married Merrill Monk on September 9, 1939 in Wenona.

Mrs. Monk was a homemaker for many years and also worked for Oak State Products. In her younger years, she loved sewing, knitting, and bowling. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Wenona where she also sang in the church choir. She played softball for the Wenona Lassies. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt to all.

Mrs. Monk is survived by four children Judy Matheny of Peoria, Bonnie (Pat) Focci of Toluca, Linda Peterson of Wenona, and Randy Monk of Peoria; one half-sister Louise Pearce of Glendale Heights; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, husband Merrill on February 10, 1992, a grandson, three sisters, one brother, and one half-brother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
