Howard "Howie" Steven Bence

Howard Steven “Howie” Bence, 58 of 109 Iowa St. Spring Valley, died unexpectedly on October 10, 2016.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Thursday in the Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd with Rev. Eldon Cook, pastor of Walnut Community Bible Church officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until time of services on Thursday.  Cremation will follow services and burial will be at a later date in Prairie Repose Cemetery in Dover.

Howie was born in Spring Valley on April 22, 1958 to Howard R. and Diane (Whitaker) Bence.  He graduated La Salle-Peru High School in 1976. He was a machinist.  Howie loved sports, including baseball, football, golf, fishing and bowling.  He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan.

He is survived by his parents Howard R. and Diane Bence of Spring Valley; two daughters, Nicole Bence of Manitowoc, WI and Kayla (Russell Mantooth) Bence of Kenosha, WI; one son, Jeremy Bence of Missoula, MT; two granddaughters, Harleigh and Maya and two grandsons, Anthony and Weston; one brother Peter (Shari) Bence of Princeton; many cousins, one niece and three nephews.

Howie is preceded in death by paternal grandparents Howard and Elizabeth Bence; maternal grandparents Richard and Helen Whitaker; great grandmother Blanche Bence and Amelia Ward.
