Carol Angela O’Malley, 82, of Spring Valley passed away at 10:10 AM February 4, 2016 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after a sudden illness.

Prayer services will be 7:00 PM Wednesday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Ronald Margherio OSB officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 PM in the funeral home. Cremation will follow services.

Mrs. O’Malley was born in Spring Valley on December 10, 1933 to Martin Luke and Emma Katrina (Oberleitner) Foster. She married Mayor Donald L. Baker Sr. on May 24, 1950. She later married Edward O’Malley in 1985. She attended Hall High School, received her GED in 1967, and continued to take college courses.

She worked at Westclox as a watch maker, then receptionist at the La Salle County Mental Health Department, salesperson at Lawrey’s organ store at the Peru Mall. She moved to New Lenox and was co-owner of O’Malley’s Construction Company. She then moved back to Peru and worked at the Covenant Children’s Home in Princeton as a house mother. After receiving her CNA, she worked on the mental health floor at IVCH, and she later retired from the Spring Valley Nursing Home.

She is survived by two sons Donald (Suzanne) Baker Jr. of Peru and Robert (Renee) Baker of La Salle; one daughter Lee Ann (Phillip) Clary of Downer’s Grove; nine grandchildren David Robert (Celia) Sauers Jr., Bradley Joseph (Kim) Baker, Keith Jonathan (Veronica) Baker, Eric Alexander Baker, Rachel Suzanne Baker, Dr. Christopher Thomas (Dr. Catherine) Campbell, Dr. Nicholas George Campbell, Rebecca Renee (Christopher) Skorek, and Nathan James Baker; nine great grandchildren Maximus, Vincent, Eve, and Ryan Baker, Olivia, Colin and Brian Campbell, Nolan Baker, and Sophia Skorek; three sisters Mary Barbara Olsen of Spooner, WI, Elizabeth (Stephen) Merchant of Indianapolis, IN and Kathleen Foster of Sarasota, FL; one brother Frederick F. (Patricia) Foster of Naples, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend Leonard Kasperski of Oglesby.

She was preceded in death by one grandson Donald James “D.J.” Baker and two brothers Patrick and Thomas Foster.
