William “Neil” Missel, 79, of Ottawa, passed away on April 2, 2026 at Illinois Veterans Home at La Salle.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A visitation will be 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM Monday, April 20, at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:30 AM with Pastor Karen Karczewski officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 PM on Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Streator with full military honors conducted.
Neil was born in Streator on June 8, 1946 to William Louis and Donna (Hoffner) Missel. He served with the United States Air Force and served two tours in Vietnam. For over 25 years, he worked at GE Plastics in Ottawa.
Neil was a pen and ink artist. He also enjoyed nature photography. He liked watching movies and reading. He read many books on military history and religions, including studying the Bible. He especially enjoyed taking family trips to Escanaba, Michigan.
Neil is survived by three children, Sean (Tania) Missel of AK, Nicholas (Anne) Missel of Ottawa, and Laura (Keith) Stevens of Plano; five granddaughters, Natasha, Isabella, Lucy, Kira, and Aeryn; four siblings, Paul (Shara) Missel, Lorraine (Greg) Hamilton, Scott Missel, and Kurt (Rita) Missel; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
