Walter "Bud" Raineri Obituary

Walter “Bud” Raineri, 92, of Peru passed away December 13, 2020 Peoria at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Bud passed away from complications of gall bladder surgery.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Friday in St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with the Very Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley with full military services. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with arrangements. Due to Covid-19, for those attending masks are required. The funeral mass will be live streamed through the Hurst Funeral Home Facebook page starting at approximately 10:50 AM.

Bud was born August 23, 1928 in Spring Valley to Pete and Lenora (Frey) Raineri. Bud graduated from Ladd Grade School and attended Hall High School. Bud had to drop out to begin working. He married Patricia (Pat) Ernat on June 10, 1961, in LaSalle.

Bud served in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1952 - 1954. He earned the rank of Corporal in the Quartermaster.

Bud was a lifetime carpenter contractor, building and remodeling many homes as Raineri Home Improvement. He and his wife Pat operated the Hotel Kaskaskia for 25 years. Bud was the maintenance man, chicken fryer, and dishwasher.

Bud was a supporter of St Jude and Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. Bud always had a special place in his heart for the veterans. He supported all veteran charities and every veteran he knew. Bud would proudly fly the American flag every day. He had a smile and a very positive attitude for everyone. Bud and Pat lived in the country for 55 years in the home he built. In 2015, they moved to Peru. Bud and Pat were lifelong members of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Spring Valley. Upon closing, they joined St Joseph’s Church in Peru.

Bud is survived by his wife Pat of Peru, sons Joe (Cindy) Raineri and Mike (Kay) Raineri of Peru, Bud (Becky) Raineri of Ladd, and daughter Cathie (Tom) Marenda of Spring Valley. Nine grandchildren include Brandon Raineri, Kaitlin Raineri, Kelly Raineri, Lindsey Raineri, Scott (Kelly) Raineri, and Katelyn (Brennan) Thomas, Courtney (Erik) Skoog, Colette (Kevin) Lehn, Tom Marenda, Jr.  Bud is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters Helen Shallhorn, Darlene Evelhoch, and brothers Donald and Jack Raineri.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren Brandon, Lindsey, Kaitlin, and Kelly Raineri; nephews David and Eddie Ernat; son-in-law Tom Marenda; and special friend John Senica.
