Walter W. Stroyeck, 81, of Toluca, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor at a later date. The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona has been entrusted with his arrangements.
Born on January 21, 1943, in San Diego, California, Walter was the cherished son of Margaret and Walter Stroyeck. He graduated from Mt. Zion High School and began his lifelong career serving the community, first with the State of Illinois and then at Caterpillar, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring.
Walter’s love for life extended far beyond his professional career. He found peace and joy in the outdoors,
with a special passion for hunting and fishing. His love of classic cars was equally as strong, and he could often be found admiring these timeless machines. Walter was also a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, a loyalty that never wavered throughout the years.
In retirement, Walter and his beloved wife, Sharon, spent their winters in Florida, creating cherished memories while basking in the sunshine. He was also one of the original founders of the Chillicothe Sportsman's Club, where his love for nature and camaraderie with fellow outdoorsmen was nurtured. Most of all, Walter treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him so much happiness.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and a step-son. He leaves behind his devoted wife Sharon Stroyeck; his sisters, his brother; his step-daughter, Julie (Andy) Dace; step-son, Tom (Sandra) Fenoglia; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Walter will be remembered for his kind heart, his devotion to his family, and his zest for life. He touched the lives of all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
