Walter J. Manijak, 60, of La Salle, died unexpectedly on January 11, 2021 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday in St. Hyacinth’s Church in La Salle with The Very Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle. Visitation will be in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle on Friday from 4 to 7:00 PM. Additional visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Masks will be required. The funeral mass will be live streamed through the Hurst Funeral Home Facebook page starting at 10:50 AM.
Walt was born in Peru on January 24, 1960 to Walter and Dolores (Rocknowski) Manijak. He married Lisa Moreno at St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle on September 29, 1984. He has worked at First Federal Savings Bank in Ottawa since July of 1982, serving as Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer.
Walt loved playing and watching all sports. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan. He enjoyed following the St. Bede Bruins, where he was awarded Athlete of the Year in 1978 and was elected into the St. Bede Academy Hall of Fame. He graduated from Illinois State University on a baseball scholarship.
Walt is survived by his wife Lisa of La Salle; one son Eric (Jessica) Manijak of La Salle and one daughter Sarah (Ozzy) Landeros of La Salle; four grandchildren, Maddison, Hudson, Romina and Santiago; two sisters, Maureen Tonozzi of Peru and Lisa (Michael) Brasher of Houston, TX; two brothers, Mark (Tammy) Manijak of Arlington and Matt Manijak of Lincoln, NE; one cousin Larry Lesczynski of Peru; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
