Virginia Marie Hammers

Virginia Marie Hammers, 91, of La Salle, went to rest after a life filled with love on May 1, 2026.

Per Virginia’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will not be any services.  The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is entrusted with her funeral arrangements.

She was born in Chicago on March 25, 1935. She married James E. Hammers and they spent their lives together in West Frankfort, IL. Virginia was the heart of her family, she devoted her life to her family and her faith, and raising four boys with love and patience.

She had a special love for Bingo and never missed a chance to play, enjoying the excitement, the laughter, and the time spent with others.  She loved to write poetry and tell stories, her warmth, kindness and joyful spirit will be remembered.

Virginia is survived by her sons, James (Carolyn) Hammers, Gary (Julie) Hammers and John Hammers. Her sister Linda Sly and her brother-in-law Leon (Vivian) Hammers; grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Gordan, Tricia (Kyle) Mudge, Nick (Lisa) Hammers, Marissa Hammers, Heather Hammers, and Vince Hammers; great-grandchildren, Henry, Charlie, Hazel, Henry, Molly, Dugan, Griffin, Eli, Lincoln, Isaac, Arick, Victoria and Elowen.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Hammers, her son Lance Hammers and her grandson Timothy Hammers.

The love she gave so freely will live on in every life she touched.

Memorials may be made in honor of her grandson, The Tim Hammers Children Trust, located at the La Salle State Bank in La Salle.
