Virgina Ann Murphy

Virginia Ann Murphy, 81, of La Salle died August 15, 2021 at OSF St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Rockford.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday in St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle with the Very Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Visitation will be in the church from 10:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia was born in La Salle on August 10, 1940 to John and Cecelia (Shurman) Zavera. She married Ronald E. Murphy on September 27, 1958. Virginia along with her husband owned and operated Papa Murph’s Tavern and Campground for over 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, walking with her dog, Murphy. She loved the outdoors and caring for her plants and yard.

Virginia is survived by her two sons Curt (Tina) Murphy of La Salle and Tom (Jill Mazzorana) Murphy of Peru; two daughters Sheryl Knoblach of Oglesby and Carrie (Michael) Roebuck of Utica; six grandchildren Zac and Toni (Kessel) Giertych of Flagstaff, AZ, Nathan and Clarissi (Kessel) of La Salle, Justin (Laura Smith) Murphy of Bureau, Malcolm, Zachary, and Zoe Roebuck of Utica; and three great grandsons Louie Giertych, J.J. Murphy, Emmet James Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald on June 7, 2019.
