Tracy L. Schmitt, 38, of Peru passed away peacefully at home on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 surrounded by her family after a courageous ten year battle with brain cancer.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, April 24, at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle has been entrusted with her arrangements.
Tracy was born in Peru on February 22, 1987 to Dena (Gray) and Larry Schmitt. She was a 2005 graduate of St. Bede Academy and a 2007 graduate of Midwest Cosmetology School in Normal. She worked as a master colorist at D’Angelo’s in Peru, Colorific in Bloomington, and Bella Maison on First Salon and Spa in La Salle.
Tracy was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Peru and the National Brain Tumor Society. She loved music and animals, especially her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. She enjoyed flower gardening, making gifts, and spending time with family and friends.
Tracy is survived by her parents Dena (Michael) Fassino of Peru and Larry (Karen) Schmitt of Tonica; two sisters Michayla Fassino of La Salle and Gena (Jared) Tigges of Davenport, IA; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her two dogs she loved dearly, Bentley and Finley.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dean and Marilynn Gray, Edward and Dolores Fassino, and Willard and Marie Schmitt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Illinois Valley Animal Rescue in La Salle, or Safe House Animal Rescue in Peru.
