Susan “Susie” D. Lawler, 82, of La Salle, Illinois passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024.
A private Catholic service will be held at a later date. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with her arrangements.
Susie graduated La Salle Peru High School in 1959 and then attended St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame. Following her time at St. Mary’s, she enrolled in the Ray-Vogue College of Design in Chicago, Illinois, where she studied interior design. Soon after, she met the love of her life, Daniel E. Lawler. They married on June 15, 1963, at St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle and celebrated more than 60 years of marriage.
Susie enjoyed a successful career as an Interior Designer, collaborating with both residential and commercial clients for over 45 years. She had a keen eye and a thorough understanding of design principles, color theory, space planning, and material selection.
Susie was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle and was active in numerous civic affairs; including, a long-time member of the Illinois Valley Garden Club, Chicago Art Institute HCCA, St. Bede Academy Auction Decorating & Invitation Committees, Deer Park Country Club, and the Union League Club of Chicago, as well as her volunteer work with Lighted Way, Meals on Wheels, St. Anne’s Sodality at St. Patrick’s Church and the American Red Cross.
Although Susie enjoyed a wonderful career as an Interior Designer, her greatest source of happiness came from time spent with friends and family. She viewed friendship as a lifelong bond, and she cherished such genuine connections with so many wonderful people. She relished any opportunity to engage in heartfelt conversation and was always ready to enjoy a good laugh. It was the beautiful, meaningful relationships she formed with both friends and family that enabled her to live a good, happy life.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne (Michael) Crowley; son, Daniel (Ariella) Lawler; grandchildren, Tyler (Allison Blackburn) Crowley, Ali (Josh) Deacon, Neal (Alex Yeadon) Crowley, Duncan Lawler; brother, John (Karen) Duncan; sister, Jane (Bob) Wamhoff; and, numerous nieces
and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Crowley, Ali Deacon, Neal Crowley, and Duncan Lawler.
Susie is preceded in death by her husband, Dan, who passed away November 1, 2023; her parents, John S. Duncan and Louise (Kreis) Duncan; brother, Stuart Duncan; and, her faithful dog Charlie.
