Sue was born in Rockford on June 21, 1971 to Michael and Paula (Romanelli) McCarren. She married David Huss on March 26, 1994. Sue had the privilege to stay home and raise her daughters while working as the Tonica Ambulance Director, paramedic and instructor. She was Tonica’s first paramedic. In recent years, she also became the historian and curator of the Cherry Library and Cherry Mine Disaster Museum.
Sue’s passions included ancestry, genealogy, EMS service, quilting, crafting, and many more. She loved traveling the country and learning the stories of her ancestors. Her deepest joy was being Nonie to her grandchildren.
Sue is survived by her husband, David, of Tonica; three daughters, Brianna (Dustin Larimer) Huss of Tonica, Elizabeth (Joshua) Grile of Rantoul, and Angela Huss of Tonica; five grandchildren, Lillian, Luke, Makayla, Madison, and Drake; one sister, Ann (Casey) Lage of Colfax; stepfather, David Brown of Peru; mother-in-law, Irene Huss of Tonica; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Gary Huss.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a charitable fund to be established in her name.
So many hearts are broken, and she will be missed. Sue’s legacy will live on in her family, friends, and communities she served.
