It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley M. Barry, 100, of Ladd. Shirley passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022, at Heritage Health
Nursing home in Peru.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday
October 29 at the Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd with Rev. Ronald Margherio OSB officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services. A luncheon in honor of Shirley will be held at Verucchi’s in Spring Valley immediately following the burial.
Shirley had the pleasure of celebrating her 100th birthday on March 4, 2022, at Rips in Ladd with close family and friends.
Shirley was born in Ladd in 1922 to Mae (Talbott) Rosenzweig.
Shirley was preceded in death by Eugene Barry II who she married on October 24, 1939, in Crown Point, IN. Eugene was born March 20, 1917, in Spring Valley and died October 20, 1966, in Spring Valley (Shirley never remarried). Also preceding her in death was son Eugene Barry, daughter Linda Barry and mother Mae Rosenzweig.
Ms. Barry went to Hall High School in Spring Valley. Shirley worked at Hobbs Corporation in Spring Valley and retired after 32 years of service.
She was a devoted parishioner of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Ladd until it was closed. She was the past President of the Ladd American Legion Auxiliary Club.
Shirley lived her entire life in Ladd and was believed to be the oldest Ladd resident at the time of her passing. Shirley loved living in Ladd and enjoyed the small-town benefits it offered. She was an avid reader and enjoyed outings with her friends.
Shirley is survived by son, John (Brenda) Barry and three grandchildren Ryan, Megan and Carly.
