Sharon S. Sharkey

Sharon S. Sharkey, 79, of Peru, formerly of LaMoille, passed away after a brief illness on May 28, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 1 from 9-11:00 AM at the Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd. Services will begin at 11:00 AM with burial immediately following in Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.

Sharon was born December 8, 1944 in Peru to Heber Jay and Alice (Windels) Thompson. She graduated from LaMoille High School in 1962. In Peru, on September 6,1964, she married Ivon J. Sharkey. Sharon also attended Midstate Business College in Peoria. During her work career, she worked her first 29 years helping her parents at Jay's Supper Club in Arlington. Sharon was a licensed Real Estate Agent for a number of years, then became licensed as an Insurance Agent. She spent 30 years in the insurance industry before her retirement.

Sharon served 14 years on the Bureau County Board and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her free time, she loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving are her children Rebecca (Shawn) Andersen and Brian Sharkey; stepdaughter Paula Eubanks; stepson Mark Sharkey; grandchildren Elizabeth (Marshal Herrmann) Milaicki and Erik (Mallory Bima) Milaicki; great-granddaughter Amelia “Millie” Milaicki; 5 step grandchildren Cody Parrott, Jacob (Audrey) Sharkey, Tyler, Maddisen, and Mitchell (Rebecca Esparza) Andersen; and 6 step great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband on February 1, 2013; her parents; stepson Michael; 3 brothers Jay C., Jim, and John Thompson; and sisters Dolores “Tootie” Fonderoli and Mildred Mini.

A special thank you to nieces, Cathy Fonderoli and Lori Jurkas, for all you did.

Pallbearers will be Al Farneti, Bob Fonderoli, Rick Fonderoli, Steve Fonderoli, Tim Fonderoli, Rick Jurkas, Kim Mini, and John Thompson.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle.
