Sarah “Barb” Barbara Bertolino

Sarah Barbara “Barb” Bertolino, 95, of Peru passed away at Fondulac Rehabilitation and Healthcare in East Peoria on September 19, 2023.

Private Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Burial will be in Peru City Cemetery. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with arrangements.

Barb was born on January 21, 1928 in Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland, Canada to George and Lena (Loman) Osmond. She was the youngest of nine children. She met Harold “Bert” Bertolino while he was stationed with the Coast Guard in Port Aux Basques. They married on April 17, 1946. They shared their whole life in Peru. They celebrated 76 years of marriage prior to Bert’s death on May 26, 2022. They had four children Jim, Sherry, Linda, and Gary. 

Barb proudly obtained citizenship and spoke fondly of her first job at the shoe factory in La Salle. She then worked at St Mary’s Hospital in La Salle and IVCH in physical therapy, retiring in 1990.

Barb is survived by her children Jim (Michelle) Bertolino of Riverton, Sherry (Jeff) Cole of FL, and Linda (Dave) Dutkiewicz; a daughter-in-law Missy Bertolino of Peru; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, son Gary "Bert" Bertolino, four brothers, and four sisters. 

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
