Russell “Allan” Richard, 95, of Wenona, passed away May 3, 2023 in Heritage Health in Streator.
Memorial services will be 12:00 PM Saturday May 6, 2023 in Bethany Lutheran Church in Wenona with Rev. Brian Moeller officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Streator American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Prior to the funeral service, there will also be a service conducted by the Masonic Lodge at 11:30 AM. The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is entrusted with Allan’s funeral services.
Allan was born in Streator on April 17, 1928 to Edwin H. and Esther H. (Johnson) Richard. He graduated from Wenona High School in 1946. He served with the United States Army Medical Corp during the Korean Conflict as a Master Sgt. from 1950 till 1952.
Allan married Verna Louise Hall on March 3, 1951. He farmed, was a truck driver for Air Products and Archway Cookies, and worked over 37 years at Heike Hardware in Wenona.
He was a member of Wenona Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Bethany Lutheran Church, where he served on the council and was a trustee. He also served on the board of Wenona School. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching and traveling. He loved going on his military honor flight.
Allan was survived by one daughter, Katherine (Richard) Groetken of Normal and his son Scott (Roanna) Richard of Toluca; four grandchildren, Kyle (Devin) Richard, Kariann (Aaron) Koprowski, Holly (Art) Sears and Nicole Partusch; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Partusch, Zander Sears, Eleanor Koprowski and Cerise Koprowski; his brother Dale (Bonnie) Richard of Peru and daughter-in-law Joan Richard of Phoenix, AZ.
He is preceded in death by his wife Verna on October 27, 2008, a son Mark Allan Richard, a grandson Benjamin Richard and a sister Phyllis Richardson.
