Roy "Junebug" Elam Jr.

Roy “Junebug” Elam Jr., 63, of Van Orin passed away unexpectedly May 17, 2019 at OSF St. Francis in Peoria, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday in Bache Memorial Chapel with Rev. Derek Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Bache Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Thursday in the church and additional visitation will be 10:00 AM until time of services on Friday. The Hurst Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The family invites those attending to dress casually.

Roy was born in Man, WV on January 17, 1956 to Roy Sr. and Florence (Whitt) Elam. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1974. He married Mary Helen Catalano on June 26, 1981, but they have been together for 48 years. Roy lived in West Virginia, St. Charles/Valley View, IL area and lastly in Van Orin. Before retiring, he worked for State Line, Peoria Siding & Windows, and Permaside of Princeton.

Roy was hardworking, kind, and humble. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and, restoring old vehicles. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Nascar. He also enjoyed traveling, working and spending time with his family and friends.

Roy is survived by his wife Mary Helen of Van Orin; two sons Michael (Tanya) Elam of Arlington and Jason (Darci) Wilson of Watauga, TX; six grandchildren Michael (Allie) Elam, Megan (Collin) Reeder, Courtney Elam, Jeremy Rotramel, and Troy and Taylor Wilson; four great grandchildren Liam, Michael, Elijah, Lillianna; four sisters Freda Elam, Mary Allen, Sharon (Bill) Johnston, and Charlotte (Frank) Cocat; many loved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Delancy and James “Hound” Elam, two nephews Chris and Billy, and sister-in-law Angie.
