Robert L. Volk, 80, of Peru passed away unexpectedly on December 4, 2023.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Webster Park. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting his family with arrangements.
Mr. Volk was born in La Salle on June 5, 1943 to Berent and Josephine “Dodie” (Bray) Volk. He was a 1963 graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School. He also attended LPO and Bradley University. He married Darlene Marie Ankiewicz on May 28, 1966 at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru. Mr. Volk work for LTV Steel for over 33 years. He was also a custodian at Peru Catholic School and sexton of St. Joseph’s Cemetery. He enjoyed watching sports, fishing, golfing, and playing cards. He enjoyed being competitive with his siblings. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and Edgewood Park Golf Club. Also he was a longtime member of Fish n’ Fun in McNabb and third degree member of La Salle’s Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Volk is survived by four children Chris Volk of Peru, Andrea (John) Means of Peru, Tim (Kathy) Volk of Cleves, OH, and Dianna (Andy) Schroeder of Freeport; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five siblings Don (Sandy) Volk of Anderson, IN, Joanne Fleming of Utica, Lois (Peter) Bistolfo of Plainfield, Tom Volk of Chicago, and Ed (Karen) Volk of Salem, SC; sisters-in-law Judy Volk of Washington, Mary (Larry) Hiester of Tonica, Kathy Ankiewicz of Peru, and Bonnie Ankiewicz of Las Vegas, NV; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene on January 19, 2020, his parents, one brother James “Nick” Volk, and three brothers-in-laws Robert and Ronald Ankiewicz and Gary Fleming.
