Robert (Seb) Siebert

Robert (Seb) Siebert, 86, passed away June 4, 2022 at Heritage Health in Peru surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, June 10 at 12:00 noon in St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church in LaSalle with Abbot Philip Davey OSB and Rev Michael Pica officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s cemetery in LaSalle. Visitation will be in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Siebert was born in LaSalle on August 31, 1935 to John C. and Florence (Spayer) Siebert. He married Rita Kubera, his wife of 65 years, on January 12, 1957.

Mr. Siebert was a proud police officer in LaSalle for 7-1/2 years before dedicating the remainder of his career to the LaSalle Post Office. He was a postal carrier, sometimes walking 15 miles per day delivering the mail. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds! He retired from the post office as Supervisor of Mail.

Robert (affectionately known as Bobbo to his grandkids) was a member of the Cedar Point Sportsmen’s Club spending many weekends and holidays fishing, taking golf cart rides, roasting marshmallows, and spending time with his family. He loved to cook and was the best sausage maker, both fresh and smoked, baked countless loaves of Bobbo’s bread, boiled pots of bean soup, and other dishes his family enjoyed. He and his wife also enjoyed snowmobiling in Wisconsin and spent many years wintering in Arizona. Robert had a gift, with a mind as sharp as a tack, of storytelling. You could be transported back in time in his imagery of events, you could listen for hours and never hear enough, his stories left imprints that will be carried on and held close to many hearts.

Robert is survived by his wife, Rita of LaSalle; three children, Shellie (David) Rounds of Ladd, Ronald (Susan) Siebert of Streator, and Sandra (Donald) Slusarek; grandchildren Ashley (Spencer) Cimei, Meredith Rounds, Nicholas (Christina) Rounds, Carli (Matt) Cade, Douglas (Allison) Siebert, Vincent (Abby) Siebert; and great-grandchildren Shane Rounds, Lincoln and Boden Cade, and two more great-grandchildren due at the end of this year.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Betty Morrison.

Pallbearers will be Robert’s grandchildren.
