Robert Leroy Nuding

Robert Leroy Nuding, 83, of Wenona, passed away September 21, 2019 at home.  

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM at St. John’s Methodist Church on Thursday, September 26. Visitation will be 9:00 AM in the church with Masonic Rites beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will be held at a private service for the family at the Wenona Cemetery at a later date.   The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is assisting the family with arrangements. Gifts in Bob’s memory can be made to the donor’s favorite organization.

Bob was born March 31, 1936, the only son of Marjory Dresbach Nuding and LeRoy Nuding of Decatur.  He graduated from Decatur High School in 1954 and attended Millikin University in Decatur. Bob married Carole Sue Bullington at First Methodist Church in Decatur on September 22, 1957.

Bob worked for Hicks Gas and Illinois Power Company in Decatur.  In 1962, he relocated to Wenona and transferred to the Illinois Power Company LaSalle station, servicing homes from LaSalle to Rutland.  Bob was very active in his community serving as the Chairman of the Administrative Board and member of the Board of Trustees for the St. John’s Methodist Church. He also was Secretary and past President of the Chamber of Commerce.  Bob sat on the Wenona Fire Protection District Board of Trustees and was instrumental in ensuring the safety and securing of Wenona residents through this work.  Bob was also instrumental in getting a new Post Office built in Wenona.  Bob was an active member of the Wenona Masonic Lodge 344, serving as Past Master several years.  He was also the District Deputy Grand Master of the 17th Northern Illinois District of Masons.

Bob was known for his generosity to offer a helping hand.  He was a master wood worker and spent hours in his work shop.  He donated his builds to Wenona fund raisers and Bob’s talent is seen throughout Wenona homes and businesses.  He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cubs and Bears.  

He is survived by his wife Carole, two children, Dee Nuding of Bloomington and Mark (Cindy) Nuding of Streator, three grandchildren, Amber Nuding(Jake Bade) of Oglesby, Mallory Nuding (Mark Cherveny) of Streator, Austin Nuding (Danielle Middleton) of Streator, and two great grandchildren, Kingston Nuding and Lyv Bade of Oglesby. Bob is also survived by four nieces, three nephews, and their respective families.
