Robert M. Marshall, 88, of Tonica, passed away peacefully in his home on February 3,2024 surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in the Tonica United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica with full military honors conducted by the Tonica American Legion. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica is entrusted with his funeral arrangements.
Mr. Marshall was born in Tonica on December 10,1935 to Virgil and Esther (Maas) Marshall. He served with the United States Army, stationed in Germany. He married Evalyne Franklin on April 6, 1957.
Bob worked at Lowell Brickyards at a young age as an accountant. Later as a clerk in 1971 and then President at Illini State Bank in Tonica until his retirement in 1998. He was a referee for basketball and umpire for baseball for many years. He was past president of Illinois Bankers Assc., on the board of Liberty Village, and active member of Tonica United Methodist Church. He was a member of Deer Park County Club and Tonica American Legion. Last year he was Grand Marshall of the Tonica Celebrations.
Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife Evalyne of Tonica; one son Tom (Jayne) Marshall of Clinton and one daughter Carol Gilmore of Toluca; four grandchildren, Layne (Jeremiah) Jones, Grayce Marshall, Logan Marshall and Taryn (Jason) List; four great-grandchildren, Maisy Jones, Willow Jones, Leo List and Tayden List; one brother Richard (Angela) Marshall of Fort Myers, FL.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn “Sally” Rowe and Betty Springstead; one brother Wendell “Wink” Marshall.
Memorials may be directed to the Tonica Fire/Ambulance, the Tonica American Legion, or the American Heart Association.
Pallbearers will be Al Stremlau, Mark Baer, Jason List, Logan Marshall, Richard Franklin, Mike Franklin, and Greg Rowe. Donnie Fike and Rick Marshall will be honorary pallbearers.
