Rita L. Martinkus

Rita L. Martinkus, 84, of Ladd, passed away July 19, 2022 at St. Margaret’s Health in Peru.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Spring Valley with Rev. Ronald Margherio OSB officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services. Private burial will be at a later date. The Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Martinkus was born in Spring Valley on May 26, 1938 to Myron “Jake” and Flora (Fanti) Tanari. She married James Martinkus on May 3, 1958 at St. Benedict’s Church in Ladd. She worked as a secretary at LP Vocational School.

Rita was a librarian and board president at Ladd Library. She loved organizing pictures and books of Ladd history for the library. She enjoyed dinner with friends and loved her Tuesday card club ladies. Rita’s light of her life are her two granddaughters.

Mrs. Martinkus is survived by two sons Mark J. Martinkus of Ladd and Garrett F. (Jane) Martinkus of Snohomish, WA; two granddaughters Savannah and Chloe Martinkus; sisters Toni (Chuck) Stank of Ladd and Lorna (Rich) Baird of Dalzell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jake and Flora Tanari and husband Jim on September 11, 2017.
