Rick W. Coleman, 64, of Utica passed away June 19, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Utica with Rev. Michael Driscoll officiating. Burial will be at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8:00 PM in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with a rosary to be recited at 4:00 PM.
Rick was born in La Salle on October 3, 1956 to Ronald and Phyllis (Landers) Coleman. He married Donna O’Neill on April 22, 1983. Rick worked at the La Salle NewsTribune and then as security at Exelon for over 30 years.
Rick was an environmental activist who cared a lot about his community of Utica. He excelled as a pitcher on his La Salle-Peru High School baseball team where he once pitched a no hitter. He was a lifetime club member of the Starved Rock Runners Club serving on the board of directors and Starved Rock Cycling Association where he served as secretary. Rick enjoyed running, cycling, hiking, and backpacking. He ran many marathons and triathlons. His last half marathon was in his homeland of Ireland--exactly how he planned to finish his marathon career.
Rick was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Rick is survived by his wife Donna of Utica; five daughters Jennifer (Luke) Denny, Melissa “Missy” (Jessie) Coleman, Monica (Matt) Feller, Michelle (Adam) McCray, and Morgan (John) Walsh; seven grandchildren Carmen, Connor, Catherine, Aiden, Jackson, Myles, and Madelyn; aunts, cousins, and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Roger Coleman.
Pallbearers will be Marty Brown, Adam McCray, Matt Feller, Jessie Coleman, John Walsh, and Luke Denny.
