Richard “Nick” Nekrosius, 83, of La Salle, passed away surrounded by his family on December 12, 2023 at Manor Court of Princeton.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle with full military honors conducted by the La Salle/Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
Nick was born in Peru on June 17, 1940 to Clarence and Mildred (Hoffman) Nekrosius. He served with the United States Army. He married Eloise Ciesielski on July 31, 1965. He retired in 1987 as tool and die maker at Caterpillar in Aurora.
Nick was a member and officer of La Salle American Legion post #426, Dalzell Rod and Gun Club, NRA, Buick Club of America, and La Salle Knights of Columbus. He served on the La Salle/Oglesby Veteran Memorial Group for over 20 years. He volunteered at the Illinois Veterans Home in La Salle. He enjoyed boating and snowmobiling at a younger age and loved working outdoors in his yard. He enjoyed the Indianapolis 500 where he has not missed a race in 50 straight years.
Nick is survived by his wife Eloise of La Salle; two daughters, Laura (Mike Sabotta) Munson of La Salle and Andrea (Larry) Weber of La Salle; one grandson Nicholas (Denae Tolu) Munson of Ypsilanti, MI; nephew Greg (Kari Knowles) Henry of Colorado; niece Allison Henry of Colorado; great-niece Annalyse Brenzikofer of Colorado; and brother-in-law Pat (Velma) Henry of Florida.
