Richard J. Wertz, 54, of Dimmick, passed away October 10, 2019 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after a brief illness.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Hyacinth’s Church in LaSalle with Rev. Thomas Otto officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sublette. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in St. Hyacinth’s Church and Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle is handling the arrangements.
Rich was born in Peru on May 9, 1965 to James and Shirley (Anglavar) Wertz. He married Stacey Leffelman on November 27, 1993 in Peru.
Rich worked for 20 plus years as a delivery driver for Coca Cola in Peru and then farmed alongside his father-in-law and two brother-in-laws. He was a member of St. Hyacinth’s Church in LaSalle. Rich enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, coaching his kids, and mowing his grass. He was an avid LP fan. He loved to talk and no one was a stranger to Rich.
Rich was survived by his wife Stacey of Dimmick, one daughter; Abby O’Malley of LaSalle, two sons; Andy and Max Wertz at home, one sister; Debbie Duncan of LaSalle, one niece and three nephews, Whitney, Tyler, Nick , and Ryan, his father-in-law; Gene Leffelman of Sublette, and two brother-in-laws; Shawn and Scott Leffelman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law; Sue Leffelman, and step-mother-in-law; Faye Leffelman.
Pallbearers will be Nick Duncan, Tyler and Ryan Leffelman, Tom Lijewski, Doug Janka, Don Kowalczyk, Todd Witek, and Matt Anglavar.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be established in Rich’s name at a later date.
