Richard Manley Obituary

Richard C. Manley, fearless leader, avid outdoorsman and semi-professional heckler, finally retired on Saturday July 17, 2021 at the age of 84 at the OSF Saint Clare Medical Center in Princeton Il.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and an opportunity to pay respects and roast will be held on August 20th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Elk Lodge on 250 S.E. Frontage Rd in Joliet, IL. The Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dick began to grace our world on July 29, 1936 in Warren Il as the son of John and Bernice (Wubben) Manley. He married Audrey Righton in 1959 then Susan Massey in 2011.

Dick was a debatably beloved physics teacher at Lockport High School and later organized AFT Local 604 where he was a tenacious leader for over 40 years. When not harassing his friends and family, he spent his time taking them hunting and fishing. Most encounters with Dick, whether professional or informal, ended in a state of shock or a hearty laugh, oftentimes both.

“Don’t let facts get in the way of a good story,” he would say.

Dick Manley is survived by his wife Susan of LaSalle; two sons Jon (Amy) Manley of Bethel Springs, TN and Joel Manley; two daughters Kara (Doug) Hood of Virginia Beach, VA and Kristen (John Eschenfelder) Manley of Honeoye Falls, NY; seven grandchildren Dalton, Wyatt, Aspen, Delaney, Soren, Anrik, and Vale; one dog Ruger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Merlin and Howard Manley.
