Rex Ringenberg Obituary

Rex A. Ringenberg, 63, of Oglesby, passed away unexpectedly May 10, 2023 at St. Margaret’s Health in Spring Valley surrounded by his loving family.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  There will not be any services.  The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is entrusted with Rex’s funeral arrangements.

Rex was born in Princeton on August 1, 1959 to Raymond and Margaret (McMaster) Ringenberg.  He married Debra Hawkins on October 22, 2010.  Rex worked at UNFI in Oglesby for 16 years.  He graduated from Tiskilwa grade school and high school.  He attended Illinois State University in Bloomington.

Rex enjoyed being a basketball referee for multiple schools as well as for Special Olympics.  He loved gardening, landscaping and taking care of everything outdoors.  He played a full set of drums in his church band at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru.

Another hobby of his was taking care of his fish aquarium. Rex’s free time was spent playing and walking his two Yorkies, Francie and Casie, and his German Shephard mix Cheyenne.

He was a kind hearted person, willing to help anyone and everyone.  Rex was a long time member of Peru River Rescue as well as having previously worked for La Salle Ambulance.

Rex was always a helping hand in the kitchen and a great chef at his grill.  He had a talent for refinishing furniture.

Rex’s greatest passion in life was spending time with his wife Debbie.  They enjoyed every one of their 14 Disney Cruises.  They had their every Saturday afternoon dinner date and enjoyed spending all their free time together.  He will be truly missed by everyone.

He is survived by his wife Debbie; one brother Gary (Diane) Ringenberg of Cary, NC; two nephews, David and Todd; eight step-children, Jason Franklin, Bruce (Karrie) Franklin, Scott (Tiffany Lamps) Franklin, Amy (Tyler) Lauritzen, Wendy (Isaac) Lesman, Matthew (Alessandra) Franklin, Ryan (Kharyn) Sommer and Kevin (Lena) Franklin; thirteen grandchildren, Leah, Noah, Lexi, Kaya, Charlotte, Cadence, Annabelle, Lincoln, Lucy, Livia, Sienna, Dominic, and Michael; and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his father Raymond E. Ringenberg, mother Margaret M. Ringenberg, nephew Grant Ringenberg, and stepson Joey Franklin.
