Paul was born in Santa Monica, CA on July 15, 1960 to Kenneth and Nancy (Moravek) Thies. He attended Santa Monica High School, where he excelled in math and received many awards. He was in the top 2% of the state of California in math. He later attended Santa Monica College which was a few blocks from his home and then attended Northridge University where he earned an accounting degree and a master's degree in taxation. He was an A student in high school and almost all A's in college. He started working at Hoover Company at the age of 18. After graduating from Northridge University, he got an accounting job at Gorelick and Uslaner.
At the age of 29, Paul married Julie Gimbutas, an elementary school teacher, and they moved to Topanga Canyon where they lived the rest of his life. Together, they shared the love of nature, hiking, and animals.
Paul's lifelong hobbies were bridge and reading. He started playing cards with his parents at an early age and became exceptionally good at bridge like his mother. With reading, Paul was interested in every subject. He was a very avid reader of fiction and non-fiction. He had a tremendous love of history. He would have made a very good history teacher but, he preferred to work as a C.P.A. He also loved natural history.
Paul was incredibly considerate. He was always putting the needs and interests of others in front of his own. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
Paul is survived by his wife Julie Thies of Santa Monica, CA.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 2010 and his father in 2015.
