Obituary

Patricia L. Hiester, 89, of Tonica, passed away Saturday June 24, 2023 at Manor Court in Peru.

Private graveside services will be at Fairview Cemetery in Tonica with Pastor Phil Jackson of Tonica United Methodist Church officiating. The Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Hiester was born in Ottawa on November 1, 1933 to Wilfred and Fern (Douvia) Bell. She married Wilbur Ullman Hiester in 1953. Mrs. Hiester was a homemaker but also helped her husband with farming. She took care of the house and the children. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She was an avid church member at the Tonica United Methodist Church and Tonica Methodist Women’s Club. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.

Mrs. Hiester is survived by her two children Larry (Mary) Hiester of Tonica and Cheryl (Jim Roberts) Hiester of Lacon; seven grandchildren Holly (Pat) DeGraeve, Amy (Steve) Twardowski, John (Mady) Hiester, Shelli (Scott) Draper, Staci (Jeff) Miller, Sheila (Will) Gaff, and Scott Schmitt; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law MaryAnn Kimes of Grand Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Wilbur in 1993.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tonica United Methodist Church, Tonica Fire and Ambulance, or Shriners Hospital for Children.
