Patricia Flahaven Obituary

Patricia R. Flahaven, 90, formerly of Wenona, died February 2, 2020 in Fort Wayne, Indiana after an extended illness.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Friday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wenona with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7:00 PM in the Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona with a rosary to be recited at 6:45 PM.  Additional visitation will be Friday in the church from 9:30 AM until time of services.

Patricia was born in Streator on March 17, 1929 to Joseph Osborn and Martha Hamann.  She graduated from Streator High School in 1947 and was employed in the office of Anthony Co.

Patricia married Donald J. Flahaven of Wenona on June 11, 1949 living in Wenona for the majority of her life.  Those left to cherish her memory are six children, Judith (Lyle) Volker of Wenona, Donna (Thomas) Stover of Fort Wayne, IN., Patrick Flahaven of Tonica, Kathleen (Robert) Jones of Morton, Michael (Cheryl) Flahaven of Wenona and Daniel (Robin) Flahaven of Wenona.  Also surviving are her beloved 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.  Numerous nieces and nephews. The family also wishes to thank Jeannie Kornfeld (Nass) who was loved by Patricia for the care, companionship and love she showed our mom.  Pat loved receiving her letters and photos!

Patricia was an extraordinary woman who always put the needs of others first.  She was a dedicated grandmother and caregiver.  Over the years she cared for family members in her home during their declining years.  She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Wenona, taught CCD classes and organized  funeral dinners for many years. Additionally she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, St. Mary’s Choir and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Patricia is preceded in death by her husband Donald J. Flahaven in 2009, her parents and step-mother Lucille Osborn and brothers Edwin and Joseph and her sister Naomi.

The family of Patricia wish to invite those attending to join them for a luncheon in the parish hall following  graveside services.

Patricia always told her children to give their money to the poor.  Honoring her wishes and knowing her two favorite charities, the family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Altar and Rosary at St. Mary’s Church for the continuation of funeral luncheons or to the Salvation Army Christmas Fund.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
