Michael “Munk” J. Piontek, 65, of La Salle, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 10, 2024.
A Celebration of Life will be 4 to 7:00 PM Thursday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. The celebration will be live-streamed via the Hurst Funeral Home Facebook page. Private burial will be at a later date in Forest Lawn Memory Cemetery in La Salle with full military honors.
Mike was born in La Salle on May 3, 1958 to John and Marie (Koplenik) Piontek. He served in the United States Army as a tank mechanic, stationed in Germany and Texas. He worked at PGI Manufacturing in Peru. He married Donna Piontek and then Laurel Piontek.
Mike enjoyed drinking beer, watching Nascar and spending time with his dog Bristol. He also loved spending time with his family. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
He is survived by his wife Laurel Piontek of Texas; one son Andy Piontek of La Salle; one sister Barbara (Wally) Lindemann of Peru; three brothers, John (Rosanne) Piontek of La Salle, Rick (Vicki) Piontek of Seatonville and Bob Piontek of Peru; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy Carol Jean.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
