Michael A. Leone, 78, of Peru, passed away August 17, 2025 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 23, at St. Valentine’s Church in Peru with Rev. J.A. Small officiating. Burial will be at Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7:00 PM Friday, August 22, at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with a rosary to be recited at 3:30 PM. Additional visitation will be at St. Valentine’s Church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
Mike was born in Peru on December 25, 1946 to Harvey “Bud” and Evelyn (Schwab) Leone. He married Mary Chambers on December 19, 1970. Mike was a teacher and coach of basketball, golf, and cross country at La Salle-Peru Township High School before joining the family business, Leone Grain and Supply.
Mike was recognized for scoring the first points in the new gym at LP High School. He played basketball and was captain at University of Wisconsin at Platteville. He was also a member of Delta Sigma Phi. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing in Canada, and his Friday night supper club. He also loved spending time with and attending sporting events for his grandkids.
Mike is survived by two sons, Dr. Doug (Dr. Adrienne Schupbach) Leone of Nixa, MO and Jason (Molly) Leone of Peru; seven grandchildren, Elena, Adelyn, Zach, Arianna, Alessia, Christian, and Aliyah; one brother Jim (Linda) Leone of Arlington and their son, Brian; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary, on July 2, 2024.
Pallbearers will be Barry Breuning, John McLachlan, Kevin Seghi, Brian and Frank Leone, and Ron Buzzel.
