Melvin B. Baima, 101, of Peru, passed away at home on December 16, 2023.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A private burial will be at a later date in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle with full military services conducted by the La Salle/Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is entrusted with the services.
Mr. Baima was born in La Salle on December 27, 1921 to William and Florence (Casserly) Baima. He served with the United States Army during WWII. He married Irene Bazzani in 1946. Mr. Baima was an engineer for Illinois Bell. He served the La Salle and Ottawa areas and retired in Springfield. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle.
Mr. Baima is survived by one daughter Candy (Jim) Brady of Peru and one son Bill (Robin) Baima of Springfield; six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; one sister Patsy Winter of St. Louis and one sister-in-law Cathy Baima of Ladd; special friends, Benny and Becky, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irene in 2002, one sister Florence Davis and two brothers, Robert and William Baima.
