Mary Jo Kotecki

Mary Jo Kotecki, 78, of Peru, passed away on November 25, 2020 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.

 Private Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with Rev. J.A. Small officiating.  Burial will be in Peru City Cemetery.  The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is handling her arrangements.

Mary Jo was born in La Salle on November 14, 1942 to Norman and Barbara (Dimond) Zens.  She married Joseph Kotecki on November 25, 1961 and they celebrated 59 years of loving devotion to one another.  As a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Peru, she enjoyed serving as president of the Altar and Rosary Society and connection with members of the parish.  She established her career in banking while enjoying over 30 years of success at Peru Federal Savings Bank in Peru.

Mary Jo enjoyed painting, sewing, cake decorating, and spending time with her many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.  A selfless and vibrant person, she always cared deeply for her husband, family and friends.  Angels do walk on earth and Mary Jo was one of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Barbara Zens, brother Norbert “Nibs” and sister Norma Zens.  She is survived by her husband Joseph Kotecki and a sister Donna Ficek.
