Mary Romagnoli-Quinn Obituary

Mary “Noni” Romagnoli-Quinn, 103, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024 from natural causes in La Salle at the home of her daughter Sandra (Dennis) Murdock with whom she resided with her family at her side.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday January 25 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Shrine in La Salle. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with her arrangements. Burial will be at a later date.

Mary was born in Peru on November 30, 1920 to Antonio and Rose Castiglia. Mary married Dario Romagnoli. They had one child, a daughter Sandra Rose, whom she adored.

Dario preceded Mary in death. Years later, Mary remarried Charles “Charlie” Quinn who also passed. In later years, Mary had a special friend, Al Adame, who sadly also passed.

While married to Dario, Mary partnered with her daughter Sandra and her husband Dennis in “The Tap Room,” an Italian supper club in downtown La Salle. At the same time, Mary worked full-time in the bakery at Ferretti’s Supermarket from which she retired.

In retirement, Mary loved collecting recipes and of course, cooking them. Mary was an avid reader, at times an entire romance novel at one sitting. And every day you’d see “the noni-mobile” heading to McDonald’s where she’d read the newspapers and have coffee with her good friend and “adopted son” Henry. Mary was also an accomplished ballroom dancer, every Sunday night for 50 years at the dance at the Paramount Club.

Mary’s whole life centered around her family. Mary had three siblings, all of which preceded her in death: a sister Virginia (Geno) Ruggeri, and two brothers Mike (Theresa) Castiglia and Pete (Annabell) Castiglia.

Mary is survived by her daughter Sandra and son-in-law Dennis Murdock of La Salle; granddaughters Lora Lynne (David) Bland, Robin Lee Bundy, and Mary Christa (Wayne) Hammerich; great-grandchildren Brad (Lisa) Bland, Bryanna (Paul) Bland-Mundrean, Taylor Lynne Hammerich; great-great grandchildren Keighlee, Elouise, and Joseph Bland, and Trystan, Rosalie, and Eleanor Mundren; and great-great-great grandchildren Nathaniel and Reagan.

In her later years, Mary had a caregiver whom she greatly appreciated and loved, Nancy Milton.

Mary’s kind heart and beautiful, infectious smile will be sorely missed by each and every one of us. Our loss, Heaven’s gain. Rest in peace, “Noni.”
