Mary D. (Aaron) Hurst

Mary D. Hurst, 75, of St. Augustine Beach, FL and Schaumburg, IL, passed away at home on April 17, 2022, surrounded by her family in Schaumburg. Mary was given her last rites on Good Friday by family friend, Friar Johnpaul Cafiero.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday in The Queen of the Holy Rosary Shrine in La Salle with the Rev Robert Gielow officiating. Burial will be in Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 PM in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. Additional visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Mary was born in Peru on July 24, 1946, to Edward and Delores (Buff) Aaron. She married Richard Hurst on June 15, 1968, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Peru. She was a 1964 graduate of La Salle Peru Township High School and graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Mary was one of the original educators to begin teaching at Nathan Hale Elementary School in Schaumburg where she taught second grade for 5 years. After raising her two daughters, Mary worked as a preschool teacher for the Schaumburg Park District for 20 years before retiring. Mary loved to travel with her best friend and husband, Richard. She was an avid reader and a master gardener. Her greatest joy was watching her grandsons grow up.

Mary is survived by her husband Richard, two daughters; Michele (John) Sinnaeve of St. Charles, and Megan Zito of Schaumburg, three grandsons; Nolan, Jared, and Keegan, one aunt; Denise Miner of Ottawa, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
