Mark Alan Grant, 78, of Peru, died peacefully May 28, 2023 at his home with his wife and daughter at his side. He has been ill for several weeks.
Per his request, there will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle has been entrusted with Mark’s arrangements.
Mark was born on April 19, 1945 to William and Rose Grant in La Salle. He attended St. Hyacinth’s Grade School and graduated from La Salle-Peru High School in 1963. Mark and Judy Mazzorana were married in 1965. They had one daughter, Gretchen (Paul) Innis.
At some point in his career, he received the nickname “Mudcat” with jobs at Bakelite, Consolidated Freightways, and Del Monte
Mark enjoyed family time and had a lifelong passion for live music. Some of his favorite performances include the Rolling Stones, Judas Priest, Sisters of Mercy, and A Flock of Seagulls. He also loved films and British television programs on channel eleven, such as Downton Abbey and Keeping Up Appearances.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William A. Grant.
Loving family members include his three sisters, Yvonne Giacometti, June Gardner, Errica (Luke) Toraason, and two grandchildren, Grant Innis and Kelly Innis. Mark was also an uncle to twenty-seven nieces and nephews.
Mark was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Peru.
Mark will be fondly remembered for his warm and outgoing nature with family, friends, and many others he encountered during his travels through life.
Memorials may be directed to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
