Marilyn Cobb Obituary

Marilyn Rose Cobb (aka ‘Sunshine’) formerly of La Salle entered her eternal life June 28, 2026.

Memorial services will be 11:00, Saturday, July 18, at First Congregational Church of Peru with Rev. Mark Harder officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services. Marilyn’s final resting place will be next to her husband in the North Clinton Cemetery, Waterman, IL. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle has been entrusted with her arrangements.

Marilyn was born January 9, 1947 to Edward and Mildred (nee Machonga) Plewa in Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, Chicago.  She was baptized on March 9, 1947 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church by Rev. Voel R. Lesiak, C-R. and received her First Holy Communion on May 15, 1955. Marilyn attended St. Juliana School and received a diploma for graduating out of elementary school on June 10, 1960. She then attended Maine Township High School East and received her high school diploma on June 11, 1964.

Marilyn was working in Chicago as a secretary at Barnes & Reinecke, Inc, when she met her future husband, Warren C. Cobb, a Senior Engine Specialist.  Warren was a smoker and Marilyn stated she would not marry “a smokestack” so Warren quit smoking for herand she joined his Methodist church! They married November 1, 1975 at Frances E. Willard Memorial United Methodist Church in Oak Park, officiated by Warren’s uncle, Reverend Preston D. Woods.  Her best friend Claudia A. Anderson was her witness. They traveled to Niagara Falls on their honeymoon and made their home in Warren’s house in Naperville. Marilyn was a seasoned traveler as she and Claudia had toured several states together and Marilyn occasionally accompanied Warren on his work trips.

Marilyn’s greatest joy was working with children. She worked in infant day care’s most of her working life and was very proud of her certificate for completion of a program in Child Care and Development from the College of DuPage on June 14th, 1998.

Upon Warren’s retirement in 2002, they moved to La Salle, where she lived for the next 20 years. Warren passed in 2018 and by 2022 Marilyn had had enough living alone and agreed to move to La Crosse, WI to be near cousins. She chose an apartment at Cass St Assisted Living.  Marilyn didn’t meet anyone, resident or staff, who didn’t become her friend! She loved meeting and talking to people! She cherished all the kind gestures from soft toothbrushes, meeting a son, visits when she was room bound, to the respect shown to her as a person. She always remarked how Cass Street was her home.

She was also preceded in death by her father, Edward Plewa, her mother, Mildred Plewa, her only brother, Ronald Plewa, her in-laws, Arnold and Alto Cobb, and her brothers-in-law, John and David Cobb.
