Margaret Mary (Chavez) North

Margaret Mary North, 82, of Ottumwa, IA, formerly of Wenona, died February 3, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa.

Funeral services will be 12:15 PM Saturday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wenona with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Visitation will be in the Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday.

Mrs. North was born in Chicago on April 27, 1941, to Leonard and Phoebe (Kilgore) Chavez.  She married Patrick A. North on December 27, 1958, and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2003.  Living most of her life in Chicago, she had worked for 10 years as a cashier at Goldblatts Department Store.  She moved to Wenona after her husband died and then and then to Ottumwa in 2006.

She was an avid sports fan, following the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago White Sox.  Her greatest joy was her grandchildren.

Mrs. North is survived by one son, Leonard (Norma) North of Toluca and one daughter Patricia North of Ottumwa, IA; 14 grandchildren, Patrick, Leonard Jr, Joshua, Zachary, Jeremy, Kristi, Heather, Tiffany, Pradley, Johnny, Stephanie, Jeremy, Melissa and Nicole; 22 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild; her brother Charles Rouqe Chavez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Sunil Bisnath.
