Maikel Green

Maikel Green, 69, of La Salle, passed away surrounded by his family on April 21, 2023 at Hines VA Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Saturday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Tom Redig, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru officiating.  Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Maikel was born in Peru on June 14, 1953 to Hal and Marlene (Maikels) Green.  He served with the United States Navy.  He married Judy Braun on January 24, 1974.  They would have celebrated 50 years next year together.

Maikel was full time driver with the La Salle Fire Department.  He also worked at United Suppliers as warehouseman and Pelka Trucking.

He loved his family and his pride and joy was his grandson Austin Maikel Haydu.  He was a member of Illinios Valley Radio Control Club where he enjoyed flying and building them. He enjoyed motorcyles, snowmobiles, putting together car models and going to car shows and showing his 1980 Chevy Corvette.  He, along with his daughter Becky as his elf, playing Santa Claus to many families at Christmas.

Maikel is survived by his wife Judy of La Salle; daughter Becky (Darren) Haydu of Heyworth and his grandson Austin Maikel Haydu; siblings, Carl Green, Dorothy Hamilton, Sharon Gray, Ed Green, Roberta Loch, Frank Gerace and Candy Green; many nieces and nephews.
