Loretta C. (Ahcin) Story

Loretta C. Story, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 81, of Peru, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 19, 2023.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 25, in St. Joseph’s Church in Peru with Rev Gary Blake, Rev J.A. Small, and Rev Gregory Jarzombek OSB officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 PM Friday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with a Rosary to be recited at 3:30 PM. Additional visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:00 AM.

Loretta was born in La Salle on November 27, 1941, to Louis and Frances (Luzar) Ahcin. She married Joseph A. Story in St. Roch’s Church in La Salle on November 24, 1962. She operated a daycare in her home for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and Slovenian Women’s Club. Loretta became an honorary graduate of St. Bede Academy in 1996 after her ninth child graduated.

Loretta is survived by five sons; Joe(Debbie)Story of Peru, Jeff(Michelle)Story of Granville, John(Emily)Story of Edmond, OK, James(Kim)Story of Omaha, NE and Mike(Heather)Story of Ottawa; four daughters; Mary(Bill)Pryde of La Salle, Susan(Tom)Sickley of Hollister, MO, Patty(David)Hughes of Mckinney, TX and Jane(Karl)Haake of Leawood, KS; 29 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph on October 12, 2006, two sisters: Frances Kasik and Bernadine Kostellic, and two brothers in infancy.

Pallbearers will be her sons and Alex Kaszynski.
