Lilyan Leone Obituary

Lilyan Louise Leone of Peru passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2024.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Monday September 16 at St. Valentine’s Church, 1109 Pulaski Street in Peru, Illinois with Rev. J.A. Small and Rev. Gregory Jarzombek OSB officiating. Funeral mass will be live streamed via the Hurst Funeral Home Facebook page.   Burial will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, 371 N, 2979th Road in LaSalle, Illinois. 

Lilyan was born on July 27, 1926 to Adeline Frisch Bergenand John Laverne Bergen in Madison, Wisconsin.

After graduating from West High School in Madison, Lilyan worked with the Department of Defense preparing personnel files for service members during World War II.

Lilyan married Robert (Bob) Leo Egan in 1948 in Mobile, Alabama. Together they had seven children, Amy, Beth, Robert, John, Mary, Kelly and Margaret and lived in Alabama, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.  She was widowed in 1978.  In 1986, Lilyan married Harvey (Bud) Leone and moved from Henry, Illinois to the LaSalle/Peru, Illinois area.  Bud passed away in 2017 at the age of 94.

Lilyan was an avid golfer, tennis player and gardener and had terrific sense of humor.  She often played Euchre and Scrabble and was always working on a jigsaw puzzle.  Lilyan loved to travel and visited Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico and numerous places in the U.S.  In winter, she traveled to Florida escaping the brutal cold of the Midwest and spent many summers fishing in Canada at a cabin on Lake of the Woods with her husband Bud.  Lilyan was a dedicated Mother, a gifted homemaker and decorator and will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

In addition to her husbands, Lilyan was predeceased by her sister Betty Wells of Des Moines, Iowa and her brother Richard Bergen of Madison, Wisconsin.

Lilyan is survived by all of her children, Amy Slutz (Austin, Texas), Beth Egan (The Villages, Florida), Robert Egan (Kitchner, Ontario, Canada), John Egan (Saint PeteBeach, Florida), Mary Egan (San Jose, California), Kelly Egan (Peru, Illinois), and Margaret Egan (Reston, Virginia).  Lilyan was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
