Larry M. Sampson, 67, formerly of Peru, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, after bravely battling Parkinson’s disease. A devoted Christian and active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Park Ridge, Larry was known for his unwavering faith, love of Chicago sports, and sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him. Though the disease challenged his body, it never touched his spirit or the love he shared with those around him.
Larry was born to Orville and Phyllis (Jacobson) Sampson in La Salle on July 20, 1957. He graduated from Lewis University with a degree in Accounting. Larry lived in Chicago working as an accountant and also in software at Griffith Foods.
Larry is survived by his siblings; Karen Leonard, Sue (Gregg) Flaherty, Jim Sampson, Terry (Nancy) Sampson, Kevin (Laura) Sampson, Kay (Mike) Raineri, and Gloria Sampson. He was a remarkable uncle to his nieces Julie, Amy, Jennifer, Rebecca, Kaitlin, and Kelly, as well as his nephews Michael, Christopher, and Peter. Larry also cherished his role as a great-uncle to four great-nieces and one great-nephew. The family thanks his dear friends, Kevin and Lori Seghi, for their unwavering support.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Orville Jr., and sister Julie Ann.
A memorial service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru with Pastor Tom Redig officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until of services. Following the services, Larry will be laid to rest at Peru City Cemetery. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is entrusted with Larry’s services.
In place of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which supports research on Parkinson’s disease.
