Karen D. Lannen

Karen D. Lannen, 68, of Peru passed away in her home on February 18, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be 4 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 26, at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 27, at St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery in La Salle.

Karen was born in La Salle on July 7, 1956 to Bernard and Delores (Harminich) Popurella. She was a 1974 graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School. Karen married James Lannen Sr. in November 1979. She worked at Heritage Manor in Peru as a nurse’s aide and worked doing private home healthcare. She took pride in caring for the elderly and was very passionate about her work.

Karen was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle. She loved reading and crossword puzzles. She loved being a grandmother and helping raise her six granddaughters.

Karen is survived by two children James (Trisha) Lannen Jr. of Peru and Amy Lannen of Peru; six granddaughters: Arionna, Ava, Emily, Marissa, Ella, and Makenzie; one sister Connie Popurella of La Salle; and one niece Brandi (Oscar) Wong.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
