Kalub Ray Cornell, 24, of Mendota, passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2025. He was born on October 18, 2000, in Peoria.
He is survived by his loving mother, Sonya Dahl, and his beloved son, Oscar, who was the light of his life. Kalub is also survived by his siblings: Kennidey Dahl of Spring Valley, Kalliou Dahl of Peru, and half-siblings Jay, Alyssa, Jordan, and Spencer. He was a proud uncle to a nephew and two nieces, who brought him many smiles
He leaves behind his grandmother, Sherry Wilkinson, and great-grandmother, Bernene Dahl, both of Peru, along with many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kalub was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Mitch Conlin and Gary Dahl; his grandmothers, Bonnie Miller and Elta Young; and his great-aunt, Teresa Dahl.
Kalub was an incredibly talented artist with a deep love for anime and video gaming. His creativity, compassion, and vibrant spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was a devoted father, a loving son, a loyal brother, and a true friend. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established in Kalub’s honor at Heartland Bank in Peru, IL.
Graveside services will be held on June 28 at 11:00 AM at Wyoming Cemetery in Wyoming, IL. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Wyoming American Legion at 105 N Main Ave., Wyoming. After the meal, everyone is welcome to continue the day to share memories and enjoy activities at Thomas Park in Wyoming. Cremation rites and graveside services have been accorded by Hurst Funeral Home.
